I wanted to share my experience because it might help someone else make the right choice. Before coming to Alpha Laser Clinic in Bradford, I actually tried a place in my own local area. Unfortunately, after a few sessions I saw no real results at all, and to make things worse, I ended up with burns on my skin which was really disappointing. I was then recommended to try Alpha by my wife’s laser clinic, and honestly, I’m so glad I listened. After just ONE session here—using a very similar machine—I noticed a massive difference straight away. It really opened my eyes to the fact that it’s not just about the machine, the technician’s skill and experience make all the difference. The team here clearly know what they’re doing, they made me feel comfortable, and the results speak for themselves. I wish I had come here from the start. Highly recommend Alpha Laser Clinic if you’re serious about getting proper results.Posted on Google![]()

Really good experience at Alpha Laser Clinic Bradford. My appointment was right on time, even though it was out of hours during Ramadan, which I really appreciated. Everything was super quick — in and out with no waiting around. The staff were really friendly and made me feel comfortable the whole time. Customer service was spot on. The place was clean and well organised too. Would definitely recommend!

Why Manchester Men Travel to Alpha Laser Clinic for Laser Hair Removal
Manchester has plenty of clinics offering laser hair removal, so it’s a fair question why a man would head out to Oldham instead. Usually it comes down to three things: the clinic is men-only, the technology is medical-grade Nd:YAG rather than a lower-powered IPL system, and upper-body treatment for men is the specialism, not one line on a long beauty menu.
For many men, the men-only environment matters as much as the results, asking better questions from coarse chest and back hair to shaving bumps that have been a problem for years. Alpha Laser Clinic client Sufyaan Ziarat described the experience simply: “The equipment is top-notch, and the staff are outstanding.” Another client, Zakir Rehman, called his visit “a really good experience… would definitely recommend.” These are two men’s own accounts, not a promise of what every client will experience, but they reflect what the clinic aims to be.
Our practitioner team, including Saif, Shoqeeb, AC, Bilal, Hammad, Ihsan, Usman and Sofian, runs every consultation and treatment in person. More on the team is on our about us page.
Getting to Our Oldham Clinic from Manchester
The trip from central Manchester is shorter than most expect. By car it’s around 8 to 9 miles, typically 19 to 23 minutes depending on traffic.
Without a car, the Metrolink makes it easy. The Oldham and Rochdale Line runs directly from Manchester Victoria through to Oldham, no change required, trams roughly every 15 minutes, journey around 34 to 44 minutes from stops such as Victoria or Deansgate-Castlefield.
The Oldham branch is at 99 Huddersfield Road, Oldham, OL1 3NQ, open Monday to Sunday, 11am to 9pm, giving most working men an after-work or weekend slot without taking time off. Full directions are on the Oldham branch page.
What Areas Do We Treat? Men’s Upper Body Laser Hair Removal Explained
Alpha Laser Clinic treats upper body, facial and neck hair only. We don’t offer lower body or intimate area laser hair removal.
Areas we treat include:
- Back and shoulders
- Chest and stomach
- Neck
- Beard line shaping
- Cheeks, temples and nose (Alpha Edge areas)
- Underarms
Full detail for each area is on our laser treatments page, with dedicated guides for shoulder laser hair removal, chest hair removal and beard line laser shaping.
Medical-Grade Nd:YAG Laser Technology: What It Can and Can’t Do
Alpha Laser Clinic uses medical-grade Nd:YAG laser technology across every treatment.
Laser hair removal targets melanin, the pigment in the hair, with a wavelength of light that heats and damages the follicle. That only works if there’s enough pigment for the laser to find. In practice: laser does not work on white, grey, red or very blonde hair. There’s no melanin to target, whatever clinic or technology you use. If that’s your hair colour, we’ll say so at consultation, and electrolysis is the more realistic route.
Skin tone matters too. Nd:YAG has a longer wavelength than the Alexandrite or IPL systems many clinics use, bypassing more surface pigment and going straight for the follicle, the safer choice for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV to VI), where Alexandrite and IPL carry a real risk of burns and hyperpigmentation.
| Hair colour | Nd:YAG laser response | What this means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Black or dark brown | Strong, predictable | Most consistent results, often fewer sessions |
| Medium to light brown | Usually effective | Good response, may need extra sessions |
| Red | Poor | Low melanin content; unlikely to respond well |
| Grey or white | None | No melanin for the laser to target |
| Very blonde or fair | Poor to none | Often too little pigment; assessed at consultation |
| Skin tone (Fitzpatrick) | Nd:YAG suitability | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Fairer skin (types I to III) | Suitable | Standard Nd:YAG settings |
| Darker skin (types IV to VI) | Suitable, specifically with Nd:YAG | Alexandrite/IPL raise burn and pigmentation risk; Nd:YAG’s longer wavelength is safer |
This is the kind of table most clinics don’t publish. More depth on wavelength and darker skin is in is laser hair removal safe for darker skin, and on Nd:YAG versus IPL in Nd:YAG laser vs IPL.
Why Does Laser Hair Removal Take Several Sessions? The Hair Growth Cycle
Nearly every man asks this, and most clinics answer with a bare number and no reason why.
Hair grows in three phases: anagen (active growth, most melanin present), catagen (a short transition), and telogen (resting, before the hair sheds). Laser only works on hair in anagen, because that’s when there’s enough pigment to target. At any given time, only a portion of the hair on your back, chest or shoulders is in anagen; the rest won’t respond to that session. That’s why sessions are spaced roughly 4 to 6 weeks apart, timed to catch the next batch of follicles as they cycle in. Over a course, more hair gets caught in its active phase, which is how you get a genuine long-term reduction in growth rather than a one-off thinning that grows straight back.
Coarse, terminal hair, common on men’s backs, chests and shoulders, tends to need more sessions than finer hair, but often gives a better long-term result. Full mechanics and a realistic timeline are in understanding the hair growth cycle.
How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost? Real Price Breakdown
Pricing at the Oldham branch applies regardless of whether you travel from Manchester, Oldham or further afield:
| Treatment area | Session length | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha Edge (cheeks, beardline, nose, temples, monobrow) | 30 minutes | £45.00 |
| Cut Above (Alpha Edge areas plus neck and side of neck) | 30 minutes | £55.00 |
| Full Back + Shoulders | Full session | £110.00 |
| Chest + Stomach + Shoulders | Full session | £110.00 |
| Underarms | Short session | £30.00 |
| Smaller single-area sessions | Varies | From £25.00 |
Book 8 sessions as a package and get an extra 10% off. Full detail is on our treatment packages and pricing page.
Here’s the arithmetic nobody publishes. Full Back + Shoulders at £110 a session: 8 sessions is £880, and the 10% package discount brings that to around £792, roughly £99 a session, a one-off cost, though many men book an occasional top-up a year or two later.
Compare that with managing the same hair by hand. Razor cartridges plus shaving gel typically run a man shaving his back and chest regularly £80 to £150 a year, £400 to £750 over five years, with no reduction in growth and the bumps starting again the moment you stop. Professional back waxing commonly costs £35 to £55 a session and needs repeating every 4 to 6 weeks, so £350 to £700 a year, indefinitely. These are general UK ranges, but the pattern holds: shaving and waxing never stop, while a laser course tails off. More in laser hair removal cost in 2026 and beyond the razor.
Laser Hair Removal vs Shaving, Waxing and Electrolysis
No method wins on every point.
| Method | How long results last | Works on white/grey/red hair? | Typical cost pattern | Pain |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shaving | Days | Yes, cuts any hair | Low per-shave, never stops | Low, but bumps and ingrown hairs common |
| Waxing | 3 to 6 weeks | Yes, pulls any hair | Repeats every 4 to 6 weeks, indefinitely | Moderate, sharp pull |
| Laser (Nd:YAG) | Long-term reduction over a course | No, needs melanin in the hair | Higher upfront, tails off after the course | Warm snap sensation, varies by area |
| Electrolysis | Genuinely permanent, hair by hair | Yes, works regardless of colour | Slow, typically more expensive over a large area | Repetitive, small pinpricks |

Consultation and Patch Test Come First
Before any treatment, our practitioner assesses your skin tone, hair colour and type, the treatment area, and relevant medical history, including medication that could affect your skin’s response. A patch test is carried out first so we can see how your skin reacts before committing you to a full course.
This isn’t a formality we rush through. It’s how we catch the things that change the plan, whether that’s a hair colour that won’t respond or a photosensitising medication. Full detail is on the Oldham branch page; aftercare guidance is in post-laser aftercare.
Who Is Men’s Laser Hair Removal in Manchester Suitable For?
Based on what we see across both branches, the men who get the most from a course tend to fall into a few groups:
- Gym-goers and athletes tired of hair interfering with training kit or taping. More in why elite athletes choose laser hair removal.
- Men with coarse back, chest or shoulder hair dealing with recurring shaving bumps and ingrown hairs. See shaving bumps and ingrown hairs.
- Busy professionals who want less grooming admin, booking a session every few weeks rather than shaving every few days.
- Men wanting a defined, sharp beard line rather than full clearance, a precise, design-first process.
If you have black, dark brown, medium or light brown hair and no contraindicating medical history, you’re likely a reasonable candidate, though the only way to know for certain is a consultation and patch test.
Who Laser Hair Removal Isn’t Suitable For
White, grey, red or very blonde hair won’t respond to laser, whatever clinic you use, because there’s no melanin to target. A practitioner will flag this at consultation and point you towards electrolysis instead of starting a course that has little chance of working.
Certain medications can rule laser out, at least temporarily, including some photosensitising acne treatments and some antibiotics, since they raise the risk of an adverse skin reaction. Active tanning or recent sun exposure on the area is another reason a practitioner may advise waiting. And if you’re expecting a fully permanent result after one course, that’s the wrong expectation: laser gives a long-term reduction in hair growth, not a guarantee every hair is gone forever, and results vary between individuals. Suitability is always confirmed at consultation, never assumed from a form.
Areas We Serve Across Manchester
Manchester is made up of many distinct neighbourhoods, home to over 550,000 people across the city, and enquiries come from right across it. Instead of a separate page for every ward, here’s the real travel picture for the areas we hear from most. None of these areas have a direct Metrolink connection to Oldham, but all are a manageable drive, or a bus/tram journey with one change:
| Area | Distance from Oldham | Driving time |
|---|---|---|
| Rusholme | 8.6 miles | 20 minutes |
| Longsight | 7.7 miles | 19 minutes |
| Levenshulme | 10.2 miles | 17 minutes |
| Moss Side | 9.2 miles | 21 minutes |
| Whalley Range | 10.2 miles | 24 minutes |
| Gorton | 7.4 miles | 13 minutes |
| Ardwick | 7.3 miles | 17 minutes |
| Cheetham Hill | 6.6 miles | 15 minutes |
| Crumpsall | 6.3 miles | 13 minutes |
| Harpurhey | 5.6 miles | 12 minutes |
Do you treat clients from Rusholme? Yes. Known for the Curry Mile, it’s one of the areas we hear from most often, and while there’s no direct tram, it’s a straightforward drive or a bus-and-tram journey to Oldham.
Do you treat clients from Moss Side? Yes, in the same way as anywhere else in Manchester: no branch there and no direct tram, but a manageable trip by car or public transport.
Wherever you’re travelling from, the picture is the same: no direct tram from most of these neighbourhoods, but a realistic, plannable journey either way. If you’re closer to Oldham’s other neighbouring towns, we also have pages for Chadderton and Rochdale, or the wider Greater Manchester overview.
Advanced Facials for Men, If That’s What You’re After
Plenty of men who come for laser hair removal end up asking about our advanced facials too, particularly gym-goers dealing with congestion after training, or anyone wanting a proper deep cleansing facial rather than a quick add-on. It’s built around deep cleansing, hydration and a genuine skin refresh, available at the Oldham branch and detailed on our advanced facials for men page.
Book Your Consultation at the Oldham Branch

Frequently Asked Questions About Men’s Laser Hair Removal in Manchester
No. The nearest clinic is in Oldham, around 8 to 9 miles from central Manchester, with a direct no-change Metrolink connection and a 19 to 23 minute drive.
No, not reliably. Laser targets melanin in the hair, and these colours don’t carry enough pigment to work effectively. Electrolysis is a better option.
Yes, with the right technology. Medical-grade Nd:YAG has a longer wavelength, safer for darker skin (Fitzpatrick IV to VI) than Alexandrite or IPL, which carry a higher burn and pigmentation risk.
Most courses run to around 6 to 10 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, which is why our package is built around 8 with an extra 10% off. Full Back + Shoulders at £110 a session works out to around £792 for the package, roughly £99 a session on average. Your practitioner confirms a realistic number at consultation.
The Oldham and Rochdale Metrolink line runs directly from Manchester Victoria to Oldham, no change required, trams roughly every 15 minutes, journey around 34 to 44 minutes from stops such as Victoria or Deansgate-Castlefield.
Yes. We regularly hear from men across Manchester’s neighbourhoods. There’s no branch and no direct tram from most areas, but the trip to Oldham by car or public transport is straightforward.
No. Laser gives a long-term reduction in hair growth, not a permanent result. Electrolysis is the only genuinely permanent method, though it works hair by hair and takes far longer for a large area.
Yes, both are areas we treat. Beard line laser reshapes your growth pattern in a way that’s very difficult to reverse once treated, so we take extra care getting the shape right before any laser is used.
We hope to have answered all your questions. However, if you have any further questions, you can email us at info@alphalaserclinic.com, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
